AAA perfect replica Panerai kicked off its partnership with French champion free diver Guillaume Néry in 2019, releasing a celebratory special edition as part of the high-profile 2019 relaunch of its Submersible divers’ watch collection. This year, Panerai introduces another very exclusive timepiece in collaboration with Néry, this one hailing from the historically inspired Luminor Marina family. Here’s what you should know about the Luminor Marina 44MM Guillaume Néry Edition.
The watch’s 44-mm case is made of sandblasted DMLS titanium; the initials stand for Direct Metal Laser Sintering, a technology that shapes titanium using a 3D printing process. Furthermore, the case features a rubberized coating on its bezel, crown, and the lever of the trademarked, safety-locking crown protecting bridge device. Like many other technical innovations that Panerai has brought into modern watchmaking, this specially developed case is a product of the manufacture’s Panerai Laboratorio di Idee.
The black dial that lies under the accentuated convex sapphire crystal has a degradé effect that evokes, according to Panerai, “the shades produced as sunlight filters through the depths of the sea.” The sandwich-structured dial features the characteristic large Arabic numerals and bar indices, small seconds display at 9 o’clock, and date aperture at 3 o’clock; green Super-LumiNova coats the numerals and indices as well as the hands.
The case is water-resistant to 300 meters and houses an in-house movement, Panerai’s Caliber P.9010, which measures just 6 mm thick and comprises 200 components, including 31 jewels. The movement is self-wound via a bidirectional rotor and stores a power reserve of 72 hours, or three days, in its double barrels. Like other Panerai manufacture movements, it is fitted with a device for stopping the balance wheel to more precisely synchronize the watch while setting it, as well as a system for quickly adjusting the hour hand forward or backward without interfering with the running of the seconds hand — a useful feature when changing time zones or in the event one needs to quickly adjust the date.
Like its predecessor in the Submersible family, the high-quality fake Marina Guillaume Néry Edition (Ref. PAM1122) has a 12-sided screwed caseback engraved with Guillaume Néry’s signature and other undersea imagery. The watch is mounted on a strap made from black recycled PET material with white stitching, and fastens to the wrist with a trapezoidal pin buckle. Also included with each watch is a white rubber technical strap personalized with a luminous “Officine Panerai” script, plus a screwdriver to remove the buckle and change between straps. The watch is limited to only 70 pieces (the Luminor model and the substance that inspired its name both turned 70 years old in 2020) and offers the watch industry’s first and only 70-year warranty.
